Sunday Times Young Sport Rich List : Ighalo Is Nigeria's Wealthiest Footballer In UK, Worth N9.45B
Published: May 14, 2020
Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has been named to the prestigious Sunday Times Young Sport Rich List for 2020.
The former Nigeria international cracked the list at number 15 and he's the only Nigerian-born sportsman in the top 18 considering that the boxer Anthony Joshua, who ranked second, was born in Watford, England.
Ighalo is worth 18 million pounds (approximately N9.45 billion in Nigerian currency), same with Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey, ex-Arsenal striker of Ghanaian descent Danny Welbeck and West Ham's Jack Wilshere.
A large portion of Ighalo's wealth comes from his salary as he was receiving around 300,000 pounds per week at Shanghai Shenhua before joining Manchester United in January.
It should be noted that only individuals and families resident in the United Kingdom are eligible to be included in the Young Sport Rich List aged 30 and under.
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah is the top ranked African with a worth of 19 million pounds.
Gareth Bale (£114m), Anthony Joshua (£107m), Paul Pogba (£50m), Kevin de Bruyne (£34m) and David de Gea (£34m) are the top five wealthiest sports stars in that order.
