Ex-Flying Eagles Star Mathew Confirms Departure From Norwegian Club Lillestrom
Published: June 08, 2020
Former Nigeria U20 international Ifeanyi Mathew is preparing to bid farewell to Norwegian club Lillestrom after confirming that he won't be renewing his contract which expires at the end of next month.
The central midfielder could be remaining in Scandinavia, with at least two Danish clubs including Aalborg interested in his services.
Mathew is eager to move on to pastures new following the demotion of Lillestrom to the OBOS-ligaen at the end of the 2019 season.
Commenting on his future, Mathew said to Eurosport : "The future will bring a lot, I am linked to a Danish club. My agent told me that. But we have to wait and see for July.
"It's not only okay, but sometimes it's nice to leave the family and try something else. You can always come back to the family, so it's no problem for me.
"I'm going to miss them, but I have to try another challenge now."
Mathew, 23, joined Lillestrom from Hearts FC in July 2016 and was involved in 97 matches for the club, scoring 13 goals.
