Published: June 12, 2020
EFL League One club Gillingham have confirmed their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season.
Nigerian striker John Akinde and eight other players are contracted to Gillingham for the 2020-2021 season.
The 30-year-old arrived The Gills from Lincoln City in the January transfer window and went on to make nine appearances for the club before the season was curtailed.
His only goal for Gillingham came against Blackpool in the 33rd round of matches in February.
One of the top scoring Nigerian players in the Football League still active, Akinde has tallied 88 goals combined in the Championship, League One and League Two.
To date as a professional, he has racked up 155 career goals for his English clubs from 462 appearances.
Previously, Akinde wore the colors of Wycombe Wanderers, Brentford, Bristol City, Barnet and Portsmouth among others.
