Two Nigeria-Eligible Youngsters Named In Bayern Matchday Squad Vs Barcelona
Published: August 14, 2020
Two Nigeria-eligible teenagers have been included in Bayern Munich's matchday squad for their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash against La Liga powerhouse Barcelona at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Lisbon on Friday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Jamal Musiala and Joshua Zirkzee are among the twelve substitutes on the bench and are both available for selection should they be needed by manager of the Bundesliga champions, Hans-Dieter Flick.
The experienced German World Cup winner Thomas Muller is preferred ahead of Musiala for the attacking midfield role, while it was an easy choice naming one of the best number 9s in the world, Robert Lewandowski to lead Bayern's frontline.
Zirkzee has acted as understudy to the Polish striker since he was promoted to Bayern Munich's first team.
The Dutch-Nigerian striker fired blanks on his Champions League debut - a cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in December 2019 - while Lewandowski has been involved in an astonishing 17 goals (13 goals, 4 assists) in this season's Champions League.
Zirkzee was dealing with a minor foot issue before the trip to Portugal, however, he passed a fitness test ahead of today's game.
