Anjorin Reveals The Moment He Knew He Was Named In Chelsea's Starting XI Vs Krasnodar
Published: December 10, 2020
Anglo-Nigerian rising star Faustino Anjorin has admitted that he knew he was going to make his full debut for Chelsea in the last training session ahead of their meeting with Krasnodar in the UEFA Champions League.
When manager Frank Lampard invited the England youth international to first team training, he initially thought that he was to be named among the twelve substitutes.
With his proud family watching on from the stands, Anjorin put in a matured performance against the Russian opponents before making way for Olivier Giroud in the 80th minute.
"I got called in for training so I had some suspicions but at first I thought I’d be on the bench, " Anjorin explained to Chelsea's official website.
"When we put the team out in training, he [Lampard] said “Tino, left wing” and that’s when I was like “am I starting?” After that, Frank came up to me and asked if I was excited for my debut!"
Predominantly a box-to-box midfielder, Anjorin was deployed as a left-sided winger against Krasnodar and he revealed that he's not too familiar with the position.
Assessing his performance playing on the left wing, he said : "It was different and it took me a while to get used to the position.
"I thought on the ball I did well and off the ball I could have been a bit better but obviously that’s just me having not played there very often.
"It’s a performance I can definitely improve on."
Anjorin has been tipped to be involved in some capacity with Chelsea first team in the coming weeks with wingers Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi still recovering from injuries.
