Sunshine Stars N99.75M Richer From Chelsea's Sale Of Omeruo To Leganes
Published: December 10, 2020Nigerian Professional Football League side Sunshine Stars will enjoy the benefits from Chelsea's sale of Kenneth Omeruo to CD Leganes in August 2019.
Sunshine Stars inserted a sell-on clause into the deal taking the Nigeria international to the English Premier League giants in 2012, stipulating that they would receive five percent of his transfer fee if he is sold before the expiration of his contract.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Chelsea agreed to pay Sunshine Stars the total sum of 175, 921.62 euros (approximately N99.75 million in Nigerian currency) following the center back's permanent switch to Leganes after seven and a half years at Stamford Bridge.
The money is to be paid in four equal installments of 43,980.40 euros in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Omeruo agreed a move to Sunshine Stars in September 2009 just before he came to prominence by helping the Golden Eaglets reach the final of the FIFA U17 World Cup.
The defender's academy, Jobisports Academy Owerri received N3m as transfer fee and also benefited when he moved to Chelsea due to the inclusion of a sell-on clause.
