Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Nigeria international Chima Akas is nearing a return to full fitness after more than nine months on the sidelines.

You have to go back to March 8, 2020 to find the last time the left-back last played for Portuguese setup Belenenses SAD due to a serious injury he suffered.

Akas returned to training with his teammates at Belenenses this week and will be available for selection for the second half of the season provided that he does not suffer a relapse.

Prior to his spell on the sidelines, he was a regular starter for Belenenses with fifteen appearances under his belt during the 2019-2020 season.

Akas has a contract with the Primeira Liga side until June 30, 2021 and will be hoping to impress to earn himself a new deal in the coming months.

The 11-cap Nigeria international has not figured for the three-time African champions since the appointment of Gernot Rohr in 2016.

Akas was the captain of the home based Super Eagles squad to the 2016 African Nations Championship and turned out for Shooting Stars, Sharks and Enyimba before moving to Europe.
