'Ajayi Was Unlucky' - Hargreaves Reacts To Arsenal's Third Goal In Big Win Vs West Brom
Published: January 03, 2021
Arsenal made it three wins in a row for the first time in the English Premier League this season, thrashing West Brom 4-0 at The Hawthorns on Saturday night.
Nigeria international Semi Ajayi made his sixteenth appearance in the top-flight and was in action for the entirety of the game.
Though Ajayi was a former Arsenal trainee, he didn't get to make his competitive debut but made the bench on four occasions before departing the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2015.
Arsenal really sparkled tonight; a superb individual goal from Kieran Tierney broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute before Bukayo Saka rounded off a brilliant team goal six minutes later.
Alexandre Lacazette netted a second half double as the north London side took the points in style.
On the hour mark, the Frenchman made it 3-0 when he converted a low finish after the ball fell kindly to him.
Ajayi almost scored an own goal, volleying the ball onto the post as he attempted a clearance and blocked the rebounded effort by Emile Smith Rowe before Lacazette hammered in.
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes the Super Eagles star was unfortunate in the build-up to Arsenal's third goal.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, after the game, Hargreaves said : "Ajayi was unlucky, he doesn't sort his feet out, it's a bad day. Then he gets one in there, that's even worse.
"To be fair, Arsenal were ruthless today. Ajayi was the Man-of-the-Match at the Etihad, him and Sam Johnstone, and today it just wasn't there for them".
Ajayi was spotted having a chat with his good friend Héctor Bellerín as both teams made their way into the dressing room after the match.
