Published: January 03, 2021
Leicester City have won their first game of 2021, beating Newcastle United 2-1 at St. James' Park on Sunday afternoon.
Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi returned to the Foxes starting lineup after he was rested for the trip to Crystal Palace on December 28, while teammate Kelechi Iheanacho remained rooted to the bench for the entirety of the game.
Leicester City got the breakthrough nine minutes into the second half as James Maddison fired home a ferocious shot after Jamie Vardy pulled the ball back.
Another stunning strike from Youri Tielemans made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute before Andy Carroll's lovely volley in the 82nd minute halved the deficit to set up a nervy finish for Brendan Rodgers' side but they were able to hang on for a win.
Wilfred Ndidi took to social media to celebrate Leicester City winning their first match in the New Year, on the occasion of his 150th appearance for the club in all competitions.
The Foxes number 25 posted on Instagram : "Great to start the year with a win 💙🦊".
Third placed Leicester City are a point behind table-toppers Liverpool in the Premier League table.
