Ighalo Not In Squad, Nmecha Benched As Man City Beat Man Utd To Reach Carabao Cup Final
Published: January 06, 2021
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have reached their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup final after beating city rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo was not selected by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær in his matchday squad while attacking midfielder Felix Nmecha was a non-playing substitute for the Citizens.
After a goalless first half, John Stones broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart, poking the ball in after an inviting free-kick into the box by Phil Foden - his first goal for City in over three years.
Seven minutes from time, Fernandinho made sure of the win with a controlled finish on the volley into the bottom corner.
Ighalo started United's first two games in this season's Carabao Cup against Luton Town and Brighton & Hove, while Nmecha has yet to taste action but has made the matchday squad on two occasions.
Manchester City will play Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the spring in the Carabao Cup showpiece.
