Man City's superkid likened to Aubameyang extends career-best scoring streak after goal vs Leeds U18
Published: March 21, 2021
Tai Sodje, who has drawn comparisons with Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is on his best scoring streak in the league after getting on the scoresheet as Manchester City demolished Leeds United 5-1 in the U18 Premier League on Saturday, March 20.
Tai, the nephew of former Nigeria internationals Sam and Efe Sodje, had equaled his best scoring streak in the division when he found the net in City's 3-3 draw with Derby County on March 16 and he's now found the net in five consecutive matches following his goal against Leeds United.
His current scoring run started when he bagged a brace against Wolverhampton Wanderers, before netting against Newcastle United, Stoke City, Derby County and Leeds United.
Sodje gave the Citizens the lead in the 33rd minute when he converted a penalty and in doing so took his tally for the season to 19 goals from 18 appearances in the U18 Premier League, and he's still the top scorer in the U18 Premier League, northern and southern sections, after the latest round of games.
The 17-year-old's feat is remarkable as he had never played in the U18 Premier League prior to this season.
If Sodje continues with his goalscoring exploits, then international recognition, whether with Nigeria or England, could be on its way in the coming months.
Six matches to the end of the season, Manchester City are second in the U18 Premier League with 43 points, two behind table-toppers Manchester United.
