Villarreal coach pleased with Chukwueze but reveals one area of his game he has to improve
Published: April 20, 2021
Villarreal manager Unai Emery was satisfied with the performance of Samuel Chukwueze in his side's 5-1 rout of Levante on Sunday, with the winger scoring his first career brace in the Spanish top-flight.
The Nigeria international has now tallied 16 goals in 114 appearances across all competitions for Villarreal since his first team debut in the 2018-2019 season.
Emery believes Chukwueze has more to offer the team given his offensive capabilities and has challenged him to improve his goalscoring input.
In his first season with Villarreal's first team, the 2015 U17 World Cup winner scored 8 goals, then 4 the following season and managed only four goals so far this season.
"He's a very young player who has to find consistency. We need to take steps forward with him and be demanding," Emery was quoted as saying by Villarreal's official website after the win at Levante.
"He’s a footballer with great quality. He has a lot of talent, but he needs to improve in front of goal.
"Today he put in a great performance and managed to score".
Chukwueze joined Villarreal in the summer of 2017 after potential moves to Arsenal and Fiorentina fell through.
