'He's Arsenal blood' - Gunners hero Kanu blasts Emery for sanctioning sale of Iwobi to Everton
Published: April 21, 2021Arsenal icon Nwankwo Kanu has criticized former Gunners manager Unai Emery for sanctioning the sale of Alex Iwobi to Everton in the summer of 2019.
In a deal worth 80m euros, Arsenal signed Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe from Lille, leaving them with an obligation to balance their books, hence the sale of the Nigeria international for a fee in the region of 30m pounds.
Iwobi spent fifteen years at Arsenal, rising through the ranks before making his professional debut in a League Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015.
"I was surprised they let Alex Iwobi go when they did,'' Kanu, speaking to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Arsenal v Everton, said, according to Metro UK.
"He was supposed to be a part of this team and I think they'd be a better team with him in it. He's Arsenal blood and he's always given his all for the team.
"He plays at an international level. I believe he'd be much more comfortable in this Arsenal team than he is in the Everton team."
