Hoogewerf in red-hot form for Manchester United, scores in 4-1 rout of Sunderland U18s
Published: April 27, 2021
Dutch-born striker of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf continued his recent purple patch as Manchester United thrashed Sunderland 4-1 in an U18 Premier League match staged at Academy of Light Training Ground on Tuesday.
When he got on the scoresheet in the 78th minute against the Black Cats, it meant he has scored or assisted in five of his last six matches in the division.
Sunderland saw hopes of a comeback extinguished when Hoogewerf headed home a brilliant cross from Alvaro Fernández to make it 3-1.
The Dutch-Nigerian is beginning to live up to his reputation as one for the future and it is coming after an indifferent showing in his first full season at the Red Devils.
In 2019-2020, the 18-year-old was involved in eight goals (7 goals, 1 assist) in nineteen matches across all competitions whereas he has contributed to an impressive 18 goals so far this season.
His goals and assists have helped Manchester United U18s cement their top position in the northern section of the U18 Premier League, two matches to the end of the season.
Hoogewerf joined Manchester United from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in August 2019, before signing his first professional contract a year ago.
