Official : Orlando City SC and Barnsley reach an agreement over Dike's loan deal
Published: May 01, 2021
Through a statement on their official website, Major League Soccer club Orlando City have announced that they have reached an agreement with Barnsley that will see Daryl Dike remain on loan at the Reds until the end of the Championship playoffs.
The American-Nigerian youngster joined Barnsley on loan on February 1, 2021 and the agreement was due to expire on May 31 but Orlando City previously had the right to recall their striker from his loan spell this coming Monday.
Currently sixth in the table, Barnsley are in need of Dike's services beyond the end of the regular season as they have already clinched qualification to the playoffs with two games to go.
The 20-year-old has been one of the key players for Barnsley since his loan move, tallying nine goals in 18 matches across all competitions.
Dike was named Barnsley's Player of the Month for April after scoring four goals last month and was double nominated for the club's Goal of the Month accolade for his efforts against Luton Town and Huddersfield Town.
Barnsley inserted a purchase option into the deal bringing the striker to the club but they are unlikely to trigger the clause if they are not promoted to the Premier League.
