Iheanacho battles Liverpool, Man Utd stars, 5 others for Premier League Player of the Month
Published: May 07, 2021
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been nominated for the English Premier League Player of the Month award for April 2021.
Having won the award for March, The Foxes number 14 is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie by becoming the second Nigerian player to win the Player of the Month award twice in the same season.
Iheanacho started all five top-flight matches last month as Brendan Rodgers' team collected seven points from a maximum fifteen.
The Nigeria international bagged both for his side in a 3-2 loss to West Ham United, before scoring in back-to-back matches with West Brom and Crystal Palace, taking his tally to four goals in April.
Having registered two assists against Crystal Palace and Southampton, Iheanacho contributed to 75 percent of the goals scored by Leicester City last month.
Iheanacho is up against Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Stuart Dallas (Leeds United), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), Jesse Lingard (West Ham), Matheus Pereira (West Brom), Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle United) and Chris Wood (Burnley) for the award.
The votes from the public will be combined with those of the 20 club captains and a panel of football experts to decide the winner, who will be revealed next week.
