What Super Eagles star Akpoguma said after scoring his first-ever Bundesliga goal
Published: May 09, 2021Nigeria international Kevin Akpoguma was delighted to achieve a milestone on Saturday by scoring his first-ever goal in the German Bundesliga.
Hoffenheim overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Schalke 04 4-2 at the PreZero Arena, with Akoguma netting a crucial equaliser in the 52nd minute.
The central defender nodded home despite Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann stretching to the limit to try and keep the header out but he could not deny the Super Eagle his first goal in the German top-flight.
Akpoguma scored his first Bundesliga goal in his 67th top-flight outing - four in the colours of Hannover and sixty-three for Hoffenheim - and was in action for 4,715 minutes.
"The first half was not good; we wanted to show a different side to ourselves," Akpoguma said to Hoffenheim's official webpage.
"It was important for us to level the scores quickly and turn the game in our favour. We did that thanks to the goals from myself and Andrej.
"For me, it was obviously good to score my first Bundesliga goal after such a long time. I'm going to let that sink in now – and enjoy it."
Akpoguma's previous goals as a professional, six in total, were netted in DFB Pokal, 3.Liga and Regionalliga Sudwest games.
