Aston Villa Academy Player of the Season delighted to make EPL home debut against Chelsea
Published: May 24, 2021Highly-talented Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has expressed his happiness at making his home debut for Aston Villa's first team.
An England youth international, Chukwuemeka was presented with Aston Villa's Academy Player of the Season award on Sunday ahead of kickoff against Chelsea following a stellar campaign for the youth teams in 2020-2021.
The 17-year-old made his Premier League and professional debut as a late substitute in Aston Villa's 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur last Wednesday.
It was another special day for Chukwuemeka as he was handed his home debut on the final day of the season as the Lions defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Villa Park.
He replaced the scorer of Aston Villa's opening goal, Bertrand Traore, with seventeen minutes left on the clock.
Chukwuemeka posted on Instagram : "Home debut🦁& Academy player of the season! I thank God🙏🏾".
Chelsea fell further behind when Anwar El-Ghazi converted from the spot to make it 2-0 six minutes after the restart before Ben Chilwell pulled a goal back on 70 minutes.
Chukwuemeka has one more game before his season comes to an end - the FA Youth Cup final against Liverpool tonight.
