Teenage Stoke City GK, Fulham, Bayern stars named in Cameroon squad vs Nigeria; ex-Spurs striker out
Published: May 24, 2021
The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has announced a 28-man group for the international friendly against Nigeria on June 4 with three of their stars in the shape of former Tottenham Hotspur striker Clinton Njie, Besiktas star Vincent Aboubakar and AS Saint-étienne center back Harold Moukoudi not appearing on the list of invited players.
Just like their Nigerian counterparts, Cameroon have decided to name a large pool of players for the glamour friendly because they are still shopping for a second opponent to face next month, after the game against Nigeria.
Indomitable Lions coach Toni Conceição has decided to leave out Njie, who scored against the Super Eagles the last time the two teams faced off at the 2019 AFCON, as well as Aboubakar and Moukoudi who are recovering from injuries.
An analysis of the 28-man roster revealed that four goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders and seven strikers have been called up.
Ola Aina could face his Fulham teammate Zambo Anguissa as the midfielder is part of the Cameroon squad.
Bayern Munich striker Choupo-Moting and teenage goalkeeper Blondy Noukeu of Stoke City have received invitations for the friendly.
Fai Collins (Standard Liège), Kunde Malong (Mainz), Toko Ekambi (Lyon) and Bassogog Christian (Shanghai Shenhua) are some of the eye-catching names in contention to face the Super Eagles.
