Twente want guarantee from Ebuehi before making a move for Benfica-owned defender
Published: May 29, 2021Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente wants assurances from Tyronne Ebuehi before making another move for the right-back.
The Super Eagles star spent the entirety of the 2020-2021 campaign on loan at Twente and was one of the most used players by manager Ron Jans, making 33 appearances in the Dutch top-flight - all of them starts.
Due to injuries which he has fully recovered from, Ebuehi has yet to make his first team debut for Benfica, three years after his celebrated move to the Portuguese Primeira Liga powerhouse.
The 25-year-old is aware that he needs to be playing on a regular basis before he is considered for the Nigeria squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations next January.
Jans thinks Ebuehi enjoyed his time at Twente and is hoping that the defender remains at the club for next season.
"We would like to keep Ebuehi, but he still doesn't know if that will be possible. He's a boy who doesn't let you see his mind easily, but Tyronne had a lot of fun here," Jans said to 1Twente via zerozero.pt.
"He was injured for a long time and now he only wants to play football. Now he is with the Nigerian national team and they have AFCON in January and to be there he has to play.
"He belongs to Benfica and we have to see what they want to do with him. If Benfica tells him that he has to come back or maybe there is another club where he can play, and that can also be much more interesting for him.
"But we have a real opportunity and it will only be possible if Tyronne wants to stay. And I think he wants to".
Ebuehi has a contract with Benfica until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
