Rohr gives his seal of approval to three Super Eagles players after debuts vs Cameroon
Published: June 05, 2021Manager Gernot Rohr reckons that Galatasaray center back Valentine Ozonwafor, CD Feirense winger Abraham Marcus and Lorient striker Terem Moffi gave a good account of themselves in their first international match for the Super Eagles.
Against the Indomitable Lions, Moffi replaced the misfiring Onuachu after 65 minutes, Marcus replaced Alex Iwobi with three minutes remaining and Ozornwafor was on in the 89th minute to replace the injured William Troost-Ekong.
The previous assumption was that the aforementioned players struggled to impose themselves on the game after coming off the bench but Rohr has a different opinion, saying they all did well.
When asked to give his verdict on the performance of the three debutants, Rohr told the Super Eagles Media Team : "These test matches are made for that, to give the chance to other players. Of course, I'd prefer to play with my best team and to prepare them for the World Cup in the same conditions but it was not possible because too many players could not come, so it was an opportunity to see Moffi, he did well.
"Olayinka also had a good end of the match and we saw Marcus, he was good also with Valentine who came in for Troost-Ekong in the end so it's interesting.
"We will see again in the next game if they can have a place in our 23-man list. Now there will be competition, and that is good, we give them a chance and we are all the time happy to have them play."

Cameroon grabbed the winner in the 36th minute via a strike from Fulham midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa - their first win against Nigeria in regulation time since 1989.
