Fennec Football : Algeria attempting to snatch Reading wonderkid from under Nigeria's noses
Published: June 26, 2021
According to Fennec Football, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) are targeting Reading super kid Michael Olise to beef up their squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The in-demand winger qualifies to represent the North African powerhouse through his Algerian mother as well as Nigeria, where his father originally hails from, plus England, where he grew up, and France.
Nigeria were the first African side to make a move for the Chelsea academy product, with manager Gernot Rohr naming him on the reserve roster for the Super Eagles' last two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.
Fennec Football claimed on Friday that Olise has turned down an invitation to play for the Super Eagles.
Rohr earlier suggested that the former France U18 international could not join the squad in March because of travel restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported more than three months ago that Olise's number one priority is to represent world champions France at
international level amid serious interest from the Nigeria Football
Federation.
The 19-year-old has seen his stock rise after a banner season at Reading and was named EFL Young Player of the Year for the 2020-2021 campaign.
