Ex-Chelsea starlet Musiala reveals Nigerian dad will be at Wembley for England vs Germany
Published: June 29, 2021
Chelsea academy product Jamal Musiala has revealed that his Nigerian father will be among the spectators at Wembley Stadium this evening when England tackle Germany in one of the most eagerly anticipated matches so far at the ongoing European Championship.
Musiala was born in Fulda, near north east of Frankfurt, and moved to England at the age of seven.
The 18-year-old, who has set records upon records for club and country, was eligible to represent the national teams of England, where he grew up, Poland, through his mother, Nigeria and his country of birth before a one-time change of association to Germany.
Based on the new FIFA rules on international eligibility, the Bayern Munich playmaker is now affiliated to Germany for life having played three competitive matches for Die Mannschaft - against Iceland, North Macedonia and Hungary.
Musiala will be hoping to be involved in some capacity in what will be an emotional game for him as he he regards England as his second home.
Asked by the official website of the German Football Association if he had a lot of ticket requests from friends, Musiala answered : "Yes, a lot of my friends want to be there, and my father will be going too.
"My family from Germany aren’t allowed to travel unfortunately, so it’s all the more important to have my friends there – we will need as many Germany fans as possible in the stadium."
Musiala was a key member of Fulham's mixed U11 team that won the Premier League Schools Tournament in 2013, a squad captained by Ola Aina's brother Jordan.
