FC Midtjylland sign replacement for Brentford-bound Nigerian midfielder
Published: June 30, 2021
Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland have announced via their official website that they have reached an agreement with Ceará SC on the transfer of Brazilian central midfielder Charles Matos.
Charles has inked a five-year contract with The Wolves that runs until June 30, 2026.
According to Danish newspaper Herning Folkeblad, FC Midtjylland have a replacement ready if one of the club's central midfielders is sold in the summer transfer window.
Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka is being linked with an imminent move to Midtjylland's sister club Brentford and Sweden international Jens-Lys Cajuste is drawing interest from Rennes among others.
Aged 25, Charles, who previously wore the colours of Internacional and Sport Club Recife in his homeland, has qualities that are reminiscent of Onyeka and Jens-Lys Cajuste.
"We have many talented midfielders who have proven their high level for a long time and have become interesting for other clubs," FC Midtjylland sports manager Svend Graversen said when asked the situation in midfield.
"Charles has to compete with them here and now. At the same time, he must also compete with the many talented young midfielders, which we, among other things, saw win in Malmö on Sunday".
A product of FC Ebedei, Onyeka has played nonstop at Midtjylland since 2016.
