The Nigeria Football Federation through Instagram have provided a squad update less than twenty-four hours before the Super Eagles glamour friendly against CONCACAF powerhouse Mexico.

Ever since news broke out that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi was handed a late call-up for the friendly holding in United States, the Federation were silent on it on social media until around 0800 hours on Saturday.

The former England youth international was called up at short notice because he has a British passport and also due to the injury suffered by Heartland goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

"Update! Tottenham Hotspur shot stopper, Joshua Oluwayemi is in camp now ahead of the international friendly match against Mexico at the Los Angeles Coliseum," the Super Eagles Media team stated.

Despite having caps for the Young Lions at U15 and U16 levels, Oluwayemi, who has a Nigerian dad, was able to join the Super Eagles squad because the Nigerian Federation fast-tracked national exempt papers for the Tottenham Hotspur starlet.

The 20-year-old is competing with home-based duo Stanley Nwabili (Lobi Stars) and John Noble (Enyimba FC) for a starting shirt against Mexico,  a tall order for him considering that he recently arrived camp.

In the first half of last season, Oluwayemi earned a taste of first team football whilst on loan at National League club Maidenhead United.
