2004-born striker of Nigerian descent involved as Manchester United begin pre-season training
Published: July 05, 2021
2004-born striker of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire was involved as the Manchester United first-team players returned for the first day of pre-season training on Monday, July 5, informs the official website of the Red Devils.
Manchester United are short on numbers at the moment, with Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and David de Gea still on international duty at the 2020 European Championship while Daniel James, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba have been granted extra days off after their countries' exit from the competition.
In the first workout held at Carrington, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promoted some exciting youngsters to first team training including Shoretire.
Predominantly an U23 player, the 17-year-old trained with Manchester United first team on countless occasions in the second half of last season.
Manchester United have already confirmed four pre-season friendlies against Derby County, Queens Park Rangers, Brentford and Everton, and Shoretire is in line to play a part in at least one of those fixtures.
In many ways, 2020-2021 was a breakout campaign for the Anglo-Nigerian wonderkid, having made his debuts in the Premier League and Europa League as well as being named United's Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year.
