Ex-Flying Eagles striker pictured training with Liverpool first team in Austria
Published: July 12, 2021
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp started running the rule over former Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi on Monday, July 12 with a view to drafting him into the first-team squad for the 2021-2022 campaign.
The Reds official website has published training images of the team's first day at their training camp in Austria, and Awoniyi was pictured with the first team stars such as Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.
The 2013 U17 World Cup winner and the players in camp undertook lactate testing - which measures endurance levels with a series of runs at increasing speeds.
Awoniyi has a tough task on his hand to be in Klopp's first team picture, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Divock Origi and Diogo Jota, who all have Premier League experience, still at the club.
Having been granted a work permit, this could by Awoniyi's last chance to prove during the training period in Austria that he can play for the first team in the English top-flight.
Liverpool have confirmed pre-season fixtures against FC Wacker Innsbruck, VfB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz and Hertha BSC during their stay in Austria.
Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Awoniyi has spent time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron (2), KAA Gent, Mainz 05 and Union Berlin.
