Balogun trains with Arsenal first team in Scotland ahead of friendlies vs Hibernian, Rangers
Published: July 12, 2021
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has taken Anglo-American-Nigerian striker Folarin Balogun to Scotland for the first leg of their pre-season tour, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The England youth international was spotted training with the first team at Orium Performance Centre in Edinburgh on Monday, July 12.
Balogun was on the brink of departing the Gunners on a free transfer this summer but was convinced to extend his contract by Arteta and Per Mertesacker.
The 20-year-old renewing his deal until 2025 led him to training with the first team several times towards the business end of last season.
He shone brightly off the bench in last season's Europa League, with a goal involvement of three (2 goals, 1 assist) in five outings, and made his debut in the Carabao Cup in the quarterfinals defeat to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
As part of their preparations for the 2021-2022 season, Arsenal will face Scottish Premiership teams Hibernian (July 13) and Glasgow Rangers (July 17), before traveling to the United States, where Balogun was born, for the seventh edition of the Florida Cup.
