Bournemouth 1 Chelsea 2 : Super Eagles hopeful scores winning goal for European champions
Published: July 27, 2021
European champions Chelsea began their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win against Championship club Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Blues played a training game against Peterborough United at Cobham and an in-house game in Dublin before their trip to the South Coast.
Onetime Nigerian Federation target Dominic Solanke started against his former side, Bournemouth teammate Arnaut Danjuma was not included in the matchday squad and Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo was introduced off the bench for Chelsea at minute 63.
In a goalless first half, Solanke had the best chance to give the Cherries the lead but his shot was deflected over.
Emiliano Marcondes broke the deadlock when he planted home a header to give the home team the lead in the 66th minute, but Chelsea leveled six minutes later thanks to Armando Broja who controlled a cross from the left-hand side and found the back of the net.
Thirteen minutes after replacing Tammy Abraham, Ugbo headed home from a few yards out after meeting Ross Barkley's corner to complete the turnaround.
Thomas Tuchel's side will face Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in their next two friendlies before the UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal on August 11.
