Dutch-Nigerian striker continues where he left off last season with brace for Man Utd U23s

Dillon Hoogewerf has continued where he left off last season with a brace for Manchester United U23s in their 5-1 hammering of Northern League Premier Division club Stalybridge Celtic in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 27.
The friendly was in honour of Bert Whalley, who played for both Stalybridge Celtic and Manchester United, and lost his life in the Munich Air Disaster in 1958.
Dutch-Nigerian wonderkid Hoogewerf had his breakout season in 2020-2021 since joining United from Ajax Amsterdam, ending the campaign with double figures in goals (12) and assists (11) in the U18 Premier League.
Twelve minutes after the break, Hoogewerf doubled United's advantage after racing down the wing and made it 3-0 in the 64th minute.
Also on the scoresheet for Manchester United were Zidane Iqbal, Alejandro Garnacho and Noam Emeran, while Scot Bakko pulled a goal back for the non-leaguers.
Hoogewerf is expected to be fully promoted to Manchester United U23s in the coming season as he turns 19 in February 2022.
Manchester United U23s have arranged friendlies with Hull City and Kidderminster Harriers before their first competitive match of the new season against Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village on Monday 16 August.
