Chelsea and Fulham's Anglo-Nigerian starlets not joining Owls after impressing at trials
Published: July 28, 2021
EFL League One club Sheffield Wednesday have passed up the opportunity to sign two players of Nigerian descent in Chelsea's Tariq Uwakwe and Fulham's Sylvester Jasper, according to reports.
The Anglo-Nigerian players were left out of the matchday squad as the Owls concluded pre-season with a 2-1 win over Port Vale on Tuesday.
Despite catching the eye whilst on trial, Uwakwe and Jasper will not be joining Sheffield Wednesday, according to manager Darren Moore.
"Oh, lastly, Darren Moore also said that #SWFC won’t be signing Sylvester Jasper from Fulham or Chelsea’s Tariq Uwakwe – said both did well, but they’ve gone back to their clubs," Star's Joe Crann said, according to the72.co.uk.
Uwakwe and Jasper both featured as trialists in Sheffield Wednesday's 2-0 loss to West Brom on July 20.
The Owls have bolstered their ranks with the signings of Dennis Adeniran and Olamide Shodipo, while Korede Adedoyin, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Dominic Iorfa and Josh Dawodu trained with the first team in pre-season.
Uwakwe has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and Jasper has two years to run on his Fulham deal.
