Done deals : Chelsea confirm temporary departures of two young stars
Published: July 30, 2021
European champions Chelsea have announced the temporary departures of two young players, who have been loaned out to other clubs in search of regular first team football.
Ian Maatsen will play on loan in the Championship at Coventry City next season.
The Netherlands youth-teamer enjoyed a successful loan spell at Charlton Athletic in 2020-2021, making 35 appearances in all competitions and scoring one goal.
Maatsen joined Chelsea from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in July 2018, and was a member of the Netherlands squad that defeated Nigeria 3-1 at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup two years ago.
Exciting midfielder Conor Gallagher will be spending the entirety of the 2021-2022 campaign on loan at London club Crystal Palace.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a taste of first team football while on loan at West Brom last season, making 30 appearances in the Premier League and found the net on two occasions.
He has previously spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City in the Championship.
Gallagher featured for the Blues in their recent pre-season friendlies against Peterborough United and Bournemouth.
