'One of Rangers' best players' - Ex-Everton hero tips Super Eagles star to shine vs Celtic
Published: August 27, 2021
Everton and Scotland hero James McFadden reckons that Joe Aribo will be one of the key players that may decide Sunday's eagerly anticipated Old Firm derby between Rangers and city rivals Celtic at Ibrox Stadium.
The Super Eagles star helped the Light Blues reach the Europa League group stage for the fourth consecutive season on Thursday evening and was unfortunate not to score when hisĀ effort came back off the crossbar from 20 yards.
Aribo has made a name for himself since his move to Rangers with a goal involvement of 34 (18 goals, 16 assists) from 98 matches in all competitions.
The former Charlton Athletic ace has established himself as a prominent player in the Rangers squad thanks to his versatility, with his ability to play as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder, right winger, defensive midfielder and makeshift left-back.
Writing on his column with Sky Sports, McFadden said : "Joe Aribo for me this season has been one of Rangers' best players.
"He can play in a number of positions, he's intelligent, he just wants to get on the ball and he can make things happen.
"He wants to go forward, he's not just happy getting a touch laying it back, keeping possession, he wants to affect the game.
"He's great at carrying the ball and traveling with it and will be key on Sunday at Ibrox for Steven Gerrard's side."
Aribo has been named in the latest Nigeria squad for a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liberia in a week's time.
