PL 2 : Red-hot Belgian-Nigerian winger at the double for Southampton vs Newcastle
Published: November 06, 2021Kazeem Olaigbe was the star performer as Southampton thrashed Newcastle United 5-0 in a Premier League 2 clash at Staplewood Campus on Friday, scoring a pair of goals in the big win.
Olaigbe, a Belgium U19 international of Nigerian descent, Nigeria U23 hopeful Oludare Olufunwa and Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo all tasted action against the Magpies.
The Belgian-Nigerian winger opened the scoring in the 19th minute, slotting past the Newcastle United goalkeeper after a cutback from Will Smallbone.
Six minutes to the end of the half, Olaigbe doubled the Saints' advantage with a low finish.
Midway through the second half, Small got his name on the scoresheet after he was fed by Olaigbe.
Southampton's other scorers in the second stanza were Dynel Simeu and Lewis Payne.
Olaigbe has been in brilliant form since the start of October with a goal involvement of five (4 goals, 1 assist) in the Premier League 2 Division Two.
He signed his first professional contract at the Saints in January 2020, six months after his arrival from Belgian outfit Anderlecht.
