Aribo and another player of Nigerian descent named in SPFL Team of the Week
Published: December 01, 2021
Two players of Nigerian descent have been included in the SPFL Team of the Week.
Craig Fowler from A View From The Terrace has picked his Team of the Week with Rangers dazzler Joe Aribo and Partick Thistle defender Tunji Akinola making the cut.
The Super Eagles star scored his first goal under new coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst when he slotted
the ball in off the underside of the bar, right in the corner, to double
the advantage in the 16th minute as Rangers defeated Livingston 3-1 at the weekend.
West Ham United academy product Akinola helped Partick Thistle keep their seventh consecutive clean sheet in all competitions in a 1-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic in a Scottish Cup clash on Friday evening.
The 23-year-old, who inked a one-year contract with the Jags in August 2021, has been immense in the heart of defence during the run.
In a 3-4-3 formation, Akinola has been deployed as the right-sided central defender and Aribo starts as one of the two central midfielders.
