Chelsea, Liverpool legends watch Watford crowd-pleaser Dennis score 6th goal of the season
Published: December 02, 2021
Two Premier League legends were among the spectators at Vicarage Road as Watford were beaten 2-1 by table-toppers Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that former Liverpool dazzler John Barnes and Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola monitored proceedings from the stands.
Barnes, who played for Watford for six years, and Zola who managed the Hornets during the 2012-2013 season, were reporting on the matchday fourteen tie for English television.
Barnes and Zola feasted their eyes on two Nigeria internationals Emmanuel Dennis and William Troost-Ekong for ninety minutes and would have been impressed with the display of the former Club Brugge star.
In a move few people saw coming, manager Claudio Ranieri named Dennis in the starting lineup; he had been rated as doubtful after going off injured in Watford's last away match at Leicester City.
The crowd-pleaser enhanced his growing reputation when he rolled the ball into the bottom corner to equalise for Watford just before halftime, taking his tally for the season in the Premier League to six goals.
A current footballer with close ties to Watford, Troy Deeney also watched Dennis find the net against Chelsea.
