First goal involvement for Anglo-Nigerian midfielder as Aston Villa beat Norwich
Published: December 15, 2021
Aston Villa won their fourth game in six since the appointment of Steven Gerrard as they beat Norwich City 2-0 at Carrow Road on Tuesday night.
Villa's two losses were narrow defeats suffered against the current top Premier League sides Manchester City and Liverpool.
Carney Chukwuemeka continues to enjoy minutes, albeit off the bench, since the arrival of Gerrard, making his third appearance from a possible four against the Canaries.
Aston Villa broke the deadlock through Jacob Ramsey who sprinted half the length of the pitch and finished with a flourish with eleven minutes to go to halftime.
Gerrard brought on Chukwuemeka to replace Emiliano Buendía in the 83rd minute and the teenager made an immediate impact by registering an assist four minutes later.
The England U19 international of Nigerian descent got away from Billy Gilmour, cut into the penalty area and slid a ball across the face of goal, leaving Ollie Watkins with the simple task of tapping in at the back post.
It was his first goal involvement for the first team in his eighth appearance across all competitions for Aston Villa.
Chukwuemeka was named Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September 2021.
