Etebo labels winner against Algeria at U23 AFCON as best goal he's ever scored
Published: December 18, 2021Oghenekaro Etebo has described his match-winning strike against Algeria in the final of the 2015 Africa U23 Cup of Nations as the best goal he has scored in his career.
The versatile Watford midfielder was the star of the Nigeria squad to the U23 AFCON in Senegal and ended the tournament as the Golden Boot winner with five goals.
Remarkably, none of Etebo's four goals came from open play before he found the net in the 40th minute against Algeria.
Etebo restored Nigeria's one-goal lead when he picked the pocket of an Algerian defender about fifty yards out from goal, used his terrific speed to get into the penalty area and drilled a low shot past the goalkeeper.
Asked to reveal the best goal he's scored in his career, Etebo said on Inside The Hive : "The best goal I've ever scored was the U23 Nations Cup in Senegal, that was the last goal.
"I drove the ball from middle of the field, it was a small mistake made by the defender.
"I drove the ball from the halfway line and then it was 1v1 against me and the goalkeeper.
"That was the best goal I've ever scored because it was really long from half of the pitch to the goal".

Etebo was named Africa's Most Promising Talent for 2015 on the back of his impressive performance at the U23 AFCON.
