Talented Anglo-German-Nigerian wing-back on target for Chelsea Youth vs Brighton
Published: January 15, 2022
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Brighton & Hove in an U18 Premier League match at Cobham Training Center on Saturday afternoon.
Four players of Nigerian descent namely Derrick Abu, Richard Olise, Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Louis Flower were on parade from the off for the young Blues.
Anglo-German-Nigerian wing-back Abu scored from close range with a header to open the scoring for Chelsea in the fourteenth minute but the two teams were level at the break when the lively forward Zac Emmerson tapped the ball into the net for the equaliser.
Goalkeeper Ted Curd made a brilliant save to keep out an effort from Markus Ifill late in the game after Olise miscued the ball.
Chelsea had nothing to show for their dominance in the second half and ended up sharing the points with the Seagulls.
Flower and Mendel-Idowu were replaced in the 75th minute and third minute of stoppage time respectively while Abu and Olise put in a full shift.
Up next for Chelsea U18s, they face London rivals Arsenal on Saturday, January 22.
