Official : Chelsea's record goalscorer in history to coach Super Eagles star
Published: January 31, 2022Through their official website, Everton have confirmed the appointment of legendary Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as the new coach of the club.
Lampard is Chelsea's highest goalscorer of all time, netting 211 goals in thirteen years at Stamford Bridge,.
The 43-year-old succeeds Rafa Benítez on the bench at Goodison Park and has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract until June 2024.
Lampard will be coaching Nigeria international attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi and his first game in the dugout is the fourth round Emirates FA Cup clash against Frank Onyeka's Brentford on Saturday, February 5.
Iwobi is expected to be available for selection for the clash against the Bees following the Super Eagles' elimination from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Wayne Rooney, Roberto Martínez and Duncan Ferguson were among the high profile names sounded out for the role but Lampard was chosen by the Toffees higher-ups.
The retired England international previously managed Derby County and Chelsea who fired him despite getting them into the Champions League and FA Cup final in his first season.
