PL 2: Anglo-Nigerian CB on target as Arsenal complete hat-trick of wins vs Chelsea in 2022
Published: February 05, 2022
Arsenal at youth level have completed a hat-trick of victories against their London neighbors Chelsea after a 3-1 win against the Blues in a Premier League 2 clash on Friday night.
Prior to the clash at Meadow Park, the Gunners defeated Chelsea U21s 4-1 in the EFL Trophy on January 11, and followed that up with another win in the U18 Premier League on January 22, a 4-0 success.
Three teenagers of Nigerian descent Mazeed Ogungbo, Zach Awe and Miguel Azeez all went the distance for Arsenal; goalkeeper Prince Adegoke and Bryan Fiabema were non-playing substitutes for Chelsea and the same applied to Arsenal duo Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
After the away team had taken the lead through Wareham at minute 15, Awe headed home after poor marking by the Chelsea players to bring the game back to parity in the 17th minute.
It was the Anglo-Nigerian's first goal for Arsenal's development squad since making his competitive debut against Blackburn Rovers in November 2020.
