Arsenal manager promotes two teenagers of Nigerian descent to first-team training pre-Wolves
Published: February 09, 2022
Manager Mikel Arteta promoted two Nigeria-eligible youngsters to first team training on Wednesday ahead of the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a Premier League clash.
Zach Awe, 18, and Miguel Azeez, 19, were monitored at close quarters by the Spanish football tactician during the first team training session at London Colney.
Awe has been rewarded with an invitation to train with the first team after scoring his first goal in the league for Arsenal youth teams as the U23s defeated Chelsea in the Premier League 2 last Friday.
A tall and physical central defender, the England youth international has been on the books of the Gunners since he was eight, rising through the ranks before signing his first professional contract in February 2021.
Azeez needs little or no introduction to the Gunners fans as he has been tipped for big things in future,.
A central midfielder by trade, he made his professional debut in a Europa League tie with Dundalk in December 2020 and has been an unused substitute for first team games five times, including last season's trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Azeez was recalled from his loan spell at Portsmouth in the January transfer window.
