Watford's Super Eagles midfielder meets with surgeon in Finland to assess his recovery
Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo is pushing for a return to action after being inactive for more than four months.

The central midfielder sustained a long-term injury during Watford's clash against Newcastle United in September.

The quad injury kept him out of the squad for the last four matches played by the national team in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers plus the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

At club level, the Stoke City loanee has not been involved in seventeen consecutive matches for Watford due to the ailment but he is nearing a return to full fitness having resumed training.

Providing a squad update ahead of the upcoming game against Brighton & Hove, Watford confirmed via their official website that Etebo met with his surgeon in Finland today (February 10), and is hoping to return to England tonight and resume training with the team tomorrow.

The 26-year-old was involved in six Premier League games prior to his spell on the sidelines while making one appearance in the Carabao Cup.

Etebo's loan deal with the Hornets came with an option to buy, provided the Vicarage Stadium outfit are not relegated at the end of the season.
