Ex-Rangers defender insists West Ham would have to pay 'millions' to sign Super Eagles hopeful
Published: February 13, 2022
Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton has suggested that West Ham United would have to pay 'millions' to sign Calvin Bassey amid speculation linking the Super Eagles hopeful with a transfer to the Londoners.
The Hammers have seemingly reignited their interest in the Leicester City academy product after missing out on his services to Rangers in 2020.
Should Bassey depart Ibrox, Rangers would be making a tidy profit on the player who was acquired for only 300,000 pounds.
Having seen his game time limited in his maiden season at the Light Blues, the Nigerian starlet has established himself into Rangers starting lineup this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions of which 26 were starts.

It is believed that Bassey has been able to earn more game time this season due to the absence of Leon Balogun who has been in and out of the Rangers squad in recent months due to injuries.
"It’s just the final third he needs to improve, but he’s made strides there too – it looks like he’s been watching James Tavernier at times," Hutton said to Football Insider.
"You can see that he ticks a lot of boxes as a young player who could potentially make that jump to the Premier League.
"West Ham would have to pay millions. He’s got the potential to develop into a top player."

Bassey, 22, has a contract with Rangers until the end of the 2023-2024 season.
