Onyeka plays alongside Eriksen in midfield as Brentford beat The Blues in friendly
Published: February 15, 2022
Frank Onyeka got much needed game time as Brentford defeated non-leaguers Southend United 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Monday.
The Super Eagle has logged 164 minutes combined for club and country since the start of the calendar year.
Onyeka was in action for just fourteen minutes at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where he was behind Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo and Kelechi Nwakali in Augustine Eguavoen's pecking order of holding midfielders.
Against the National League side, the FC Ebedei product was deployed in midfield alongside new Brentford signing Christian Eriksen, who played his first game since suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last June.
Josh Dasilva scored a hat-trick for Brentford while the Blues' goals came courtesy of James Dunne and Lewis Gard.
Onyeka was denied from getting on the scoresheet by Southend United goalkeeper Andeng Ndi in the first half.

The Brentford number 15, who was an unused substitute against Crystal Palace this past weekend, put in a full shift against the fifth-tier side.
