Report : Newcastle United add Porto's Nigeria star to their list of summer targets
Published: February 20, 2022
Though it is still a long way to go before the reopening of the transfer window, Newcastle United have started identifying possible targets to bolster the squad next season.
According to Spanish transfer market website Fichajes, Porto star Zaidu Sanusi has emerged as Newcastle United's primary transfer target for the left-back position.
The Magpies are looking at bringing in a left-back as Matt Targett, who joined on loan last month, could return to his parent club Aston Villa with no option or obligation to buy included in the deal bringing him to St James' Park.
Sanusi is back in the plans of Porto manager Sérgio Conceição after falling out of favour in the beginning of the season.
The 24-year-old was involved in all the matches played by the Dragons in the group stage of this season's Champions League and went the distance against Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday.
A nine-cap Nigeria international, Sanusi is under contract with Porto until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
He gave a good account of himself at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations despite the Super Eagles' early elimination from the tournament in Cameroon.
