Newly-capped Nigeria international battles Chelsea, Spurs, Aston Villa stars for WSL POTM award
Published: February 21, 2022
Newly-capped Nigeria international Ashleigh Plumptre has been nominated for the Barclays FA Women's Super League February Player of the Month, the official website of Leicester City has informed.
A former England youth international, Plumptre made her international debut last Friday, starring in a 2-0 win over Ivory Coast in a 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier staged at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
In her bid to win the monthly accolade, Plumptre faces competition from Leicester Women teammate Jemma Purfield, Chelsea duo Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter, Ashleigh Neville (Tottenham hotspur) and Alisha Lehmann (Aston Villa).
The 23-year-old Plumptre helped the Foxes win their two matches in February, against Birmingham City and West Ham United.
She netted her first ever goal in the Women's Super League as Leicester City thrashed West Ham 3-0 on February 13, rising highest to nod the ball into the bottom corner after eight minutes.
Plumptre trained with the Super Falcons on Sunday evening at Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan ahead of their reverse fixture against Ivory Coast.
