Tottenham Hotspur insider claims Etete could join Championship club on loan next season
Published: February 23, 2022
Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham believes Kion Etete could join a Championship club on a season-long loan in the 2022-2023 season.
The Anglo-Nigerian center forward spent the first half of the campaign on loan at League Two club Northampton Town and was recalled from his loan spell by parent club Tottenham before heading to League One team Cheltenham Town for the second half of the season.
Etete's loans to the Football League clubs have been positive as he has showed maturity beyond his years with a goal involvement of 12 (7 goals, 5 assists) in 29 outings combined.
The 20-year-old was crucial to Tottenham Hotspur's development team before he was farmed out on loan to continue his development.
Wenham is pleased by the progress of Etete and the way Tottenham handled his loan moves.
"A lot of fans, myself included, thought he had done so well at youth level just because of his size because he is an imposing figure," Wenham told Football Insider.
"The fact he has gone out to League Two and done well before going to League One and continuing that, suggests otherwise.
"It also sets him up nicely for a season-long loan in League One or the Championship next season."

Etete is the most high profile player of Nigerian descent with a contract at Spurs beyond the end of the season, with the futures of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Joshua Oluwayemi and central defender Tobi Omole up in the air.
