Nigeria national teamer in the running for La Liga Smartbank MVP award for February
Published: March 03, 2022
Nigeria national teamer Umar Sadiq is in the running for LaLiga Smartbank Player of the Month for February 2022.
The Almeria striker has been nominated for the monthly accolade along with Eibar winger José Corpas and SD Huesca midfielder Jaime Seoane.
Sadiq was influential for the Rojiblancos last month, helping them register four successive wins in the division.
The 25-year-old scored in all the four league matches played by Almeria in the LaLiga 2 in February, something he had not managed in his professional career prior to this season.
In what was his first game at home after AFCON duty with the Super Eagles in Cameroon, the lanky striker found the net in a 2-0 win vs UD Ibiza, netted the winner against Malaga the following matchday, and then scored both goals in a 2-1 win over CD Mirandés before getting on the scoresheet vs CF Fuenlabrada.
Sadiq won a penalty converted by Largie Ramazani against UD Ibiza and provided the assist for the opening goal netted by Almeria vs CF Fuenlabrada, taking his goal involvement to six in four appearances.
