Super Eagles midfielder makes Champions League debut for Salzburg in 7-1 loss to Bayern
Published: March 08, 2022
Super Eagles midfielder Samson Tijani made his Champions League debut for Salzburg as the Austrian champions suffered a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich at the Fußball Arena München on Tuesday night.
The former Golden Eaglets captain came off the bench in the 67th minute as a replacement for Mohamed Camara - his fifth appearance for Salzburg in all competitions so far in 2022.
Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle handed a Champions League debut to Tijani due to the injury suffered by Camara.
Two first half penalties dispatched by Robert Lewandowski saw Bayern Munich establish a two-goal lead and the Poland marksman went on to claim his hat-trick in the 23rd minute.
Gnabry's low shot beat goalkeeper Philipp Kohnto to put Bayern in cruise control just past the half hour mark.
Bayern Munich started with a flourish in the second half as Thomas Muller made it 5-0 with a brilliant shot.
The 18-year-old Dane Kjaergaard gave Salzburg a little bit of hope and consolation when he pulled a goal back in the 70th minute, before Muller and Leroy Sane found the net.
